Mademoiselle D'Artois - 1777
oil on canvas, Oval, 62.2 x 52 cm, 24-1/2 x 20-1/2 in
Collection Marquis of Chaponay.
Vigee Le Brun listed the sitter as "Mlle Dartois." Maialen Berasategui suggests
this was Sophie d'Artois (8 May 1776-December 1782), daughter of the comte
d'Artois, youngest brother of Louis XVI, and future Charles X of France.
The age of the sitter would seem to match. However, there was also a family
called Dartois. One Mlle Dartois married Jean-Etienne Le Sénéchal.
