Frederick Augustus Hervey, 4th Earl of Bristol and Bishop of Derry. Lord Bristol the founder of Ickworth commissioned two portraits by Vigée Le Brun and a copy of her Uffizi self
portrait. This painting was completed in Naples, Italy. Note Vesuvius
smoking in the background. She used Vesuvius in several works especially
those of Lady Hamilton. In Souvenirs she tells of several breathtaking
encounters with danger on its slopes. Such was her fascination, she returned
time after time, scorched. This portrait was displayed in the 2015 Paris Exhibition.
