The Spanish Concert - 1777
Oil on canvas, 82 x 101 cm (32.24 x 39.75 in) Private Collection. Angela Demutskiy provided information about this painting. This painting was first sold on 11 Nov 1778. Dealer: Dufresne with Jean Baptiste Pierre Le Brun as the expert. It sold for 720 livres, the seller was Marie-Louise-Antoinette de Wignacourt, Marquise de Cossé-Brissac, buyer: Louis-Francois, Métra. It is presented in Vigée Le Brun's painting list as "1 Spanish Scene". Description: A Spanish concert. We see in the middle of the painting, and on a yellow sofa, a lady dressed in white satin, eyes fixed on a music book. Behind her is a man standing pinching the guitar that seems to accompany it. In the right corner, appears a girl half hidden by a curtain, which looks at them. On the same side is a table covered with a Turkish carpet; the other the toilette, curtains hiding a casement. This painting is the only of its kind that the artist did.
