 | Julie Le Brun- 1782
Pastel, 10 x 9.3 in Vigee le Brun's daugher Julie appears to be about three in this picture. Portrait de la fille de l'artiste, Jeanne Julie Louise. Sold by Sotheby's Paris, Thursday, June 27, 2002 as lot 71. Now the question is it really Julie. This is an unfinished pastel, perhaps a study for another painting. The thing is, this is a blond child with brown or hazel eyes. What we know of Julie is that she had dark brown hair with light or blue eyes. I know some children are born with fair hair that eventually turns darker, but I doubt this was the case with Julie as her nick name was "brunette". vlb didn't even list Julie for 1782. If this is the pastel once owned by Mme Weill, she may have been told it was the artist's daughter.
