Henri Louis Cain, the Actor Lekain - 1778 oil on canvas, oval, 24-1/2 x 22 in Private collection "The notorious Lekain ... frightened me with his gloomy, savage manner" - Vigée Le Brun. Henri -Louis Cain lived from 1729 to February 1778, so this painting was either done just before he died, or perhaps posthumously from memory.
